George Airport (IATA: GRJ, ICAO: FAGG) is an airport located in George, South Africa. It was formerly known as P.W. Botha Airport, named after the late state president who lived in this part of the country. This airport was built in 1977 as an exact replica of the Keetmanshoop, Namibia airport. It has won awards for efficient operation two years running.
This traditional geocache is situated on the eastern side of GRJ. It is also the scene where on December 7, 2009 - An Embraer ERJ 135 aircraft operated by SA Airlink on a scheduled flight, overrun the runway in wet conditions and ended up on a public road. Luckily there were no fatalities, but the plane suffered substantial damage. The geocache is situated next to the perimeter fence, eastern most side, where the (red) landing lights are closest to the fence. Be careful when pulling off to the side of the road for parking, cars going towards Herolds Bay, the N2 or George are speeding around the curve. Parking is only available if you come from the N2 towards the airport.
