The Samson Traditional Cache
Deise Boys: in light of the recent different logging experiences, from nothing there to cache found (albeit wet/absent log), there was an expectation that the situation on the ground would eventually clarify. however, better to archive now rather than allowing cachers face a disability. will remove the box in due course.

The wreck of the Samson lies a few metres off the coast in Ardmore, Co. Waterford. Is makes for a spectacular sight as you ramble along the famous Cliff Walk.
The Samson was a floating crane-ship. It was being towed from Liverpool to Malta when the towline snapped off the Welsh coast in a heavy storm. It was driven across the Irish sea overnight, and landed on the rocks by Ram Head the following morning, 12 December, 1987.
Because it is a crane-ship, it makes for a most unusual sight, and several dozen seagulls are permanently perched on the crane.
Nearby buildings on note near the cache site are the Lookout Post, build in 1940 as part of the Second World War observation posts keeping an eye on shipping movements out to sea, and the gothic-style Watch Tower, built around 1800 as part of the Napoleonic defences built along the coastline at that time.
Further along the cliff walk you will come to St. Declan's Walk cache, one of the most favourited caches in the whole of Waterford.
The waypoint is actually the site of the Saint Declan's Well cache - parking is at a premium here in July and August. The cache container is a small plastic box, placed half-way down the steep path towards the cliff edge. Dont cross over the rusty barbed wire - the reason will be very obvious Be very careful if it has rained, it you have vertigo.and mind the young ones.
