Sognerådet i Rye-Sonnerup kommune besluttede at rejse en bautasten til minde om genforeningen med det omstridte land Sønderjylland. I april begyndte de arbejdet med at realisere planen. Allerede i maj kunne udvalget meddele at man var blevet enige om en skøn plads i Strandskoven med to smukke egetræer ved vejen. Greve F.C.R Scheel, Ryegaard, overlod stedet uden betaling til mindeplads.
Herefter blev egnen gennemsøgt for en passende sten uden held. Det mærkelige skete at man ved rydningen af den lille granplantage, hvor genforeningspladsen skulle være, fandt en velegnet sten. Stenhuggermester Glem fra Roskilde opsatte Mindestenen og indhuggede teksten, der er forfattet af Pastor Jørgensen, Rye.
På Valdemarsdag blev pladsen og stenen indviget ved en folkefest. Forpagteren ved Langtved Færgekro blev udset til at være opsynsmand og hejse flaget på nationale mindedage. Flagstangen er dog ikke længere ved stenen. Soklen står dog stadig midt mellem egetræerne ved indgangen til pladsen.

The Parish Council in Rye-Sonnerup municipality decided to erect a menhir to in memory of the reunion of the disputed land: South Jutland. In April they began their work to implement the plan. Already in May, the committee could announce that it had found a wonderful place in Strandskoven, with two beautiful oak trees by the road. Count F.C.R. Scheel, Ryegaard, donated the area, as memorial place, for free.
Subsequently, the municipality was searched for a suitable stone without success. The strange thing was, that when the little fir plantation, where reunification space should be, was cleared, a suitable stone was found.
The stonemason Glem from Roskilde erected memorial stone and carved text, which is authored by Pastor Jørgensen, Rye.
At Valdemar-day the square and stone was inaugurated at a public festival. The tenant at Langtved Færgekro was appointed to be the caretaker and hoist the flag on Danish flag days. The flagstick is no longer at the stone, however the base is still midway between the oak trees at the entrance to the square.
