Interstate 81 runs the length of the Appalachian Mountains from the Canadian border near Fisher’s Landing, NY to I-40 in Dandridge, TN and follows the paths of the American Indians and troop movements during the Civil War. Being mostly rural, it is heavily used as a trucking corridor, often as a bypass of the busier Interstate 95 to the east.
Traveling up I-81 to work every day from Staunton in the south to Harrisonburg in the north, I share the road with lots of trucks and truckers. On one particularly busy morning, I spotted 6 trucks with different cab colors from 6 different trucking companies each transporting a different geocaching item. Each truck and driver was from a different state and each exited I-81 at different points (exits 222, 225, 227, 235, 240 & 245 from south to north)
Use the Puzzle Clues below to find out what state each trucker is from, what color truck they are driving, which company they are driving for, what they are hauling, and what exit they took.
Puzzle Clues:
The truck from Tennessee has a red cab.
Noah drives for Swift Transportation.
John is from Delaware.
Troy got off at the exit right before the truck with the gold cab.
The truck with the green cab is from the state where geocaching originated.
Arnold Transportation hauls magnetic key holders.
The truck with the cab the same color as the upper left quadrant of the Geocaching.com logo carries bison tubes.
The truck that originated from the state that is the southernmost terminus of I-81 got off at Exit 235.
The truck carrying Lock & Locks got off one exit after the Old Dominion Freight Line truck.
The Con-Way Freight truck got off one exit after the truck hauling bison tubes.
The truck carrying ammo boxes got off at first exit (exit 222).
Chris exited sometime after Trevor.
The truck from Maine carries Geocoins.
Troy’s truck has a load of Travel Bugs.
The truck with Lock & Locks got off one exit before or after the truck from Virginia.
The truck from Virginia got off one exit after the truck from North Carolina.
The blue cabbed truck got off one exit after the yellow cabbed truck.
Troy exited one exit after the Arnold Transportation truck.
The Wilson Trucking truck got off one exit before the Swift Transportation truck.
Ben drives for Harris Trucking Company.
The truck with the yellow cab got off one exit after the truck with the black cab.
Then using your solution and the following key, determine the final coordinates of the cache.
Final Coordinates:
N 38 21. (Noah) (Blue) (Oregon) W 078 55. (Exit 235) (Old Dominion) (Black)
Key to Final Coordinates (not all key items are used)
Con-Way Freight = 6
Exit 222 = 0
Frank = 5
FTF Pins = 6
Geocoins = 4
Magnetic Key Holders = 4
Maryland = 2
Purple = 1
UPS Truck = 7
