There is no better way to start off this series then to start right here in Elizabethtown's first subdivision. Diecks was built sometime in the mid to late 40's roughly bordered by Poplar Street in the South and Joan Avenue in the North. It is made up of mostly modest two bedroom wood frame homes, with a few having basements. After most of Elizabethtown's growth followed along US 31w and US 62 the need for more room prompted growth here. I am not sure but have heard some stories that the owners of the Diecks concrete block company laid out and built most the homes in this area (hence the name). The homes here are somewhat small but are build well with strong foundations and plaster walls. My aunt and uncle owned two of these homes over the years and they were built very well.
Most of the homes have been expanded over the years and most are still in great shape. One of the features of this subdivision that was a problem for many years was that a creek that ran through it often overflowed in flash floods and would periodically flood some homes. This cache is located near a structure that was recently built to avoid those flash floods.
