Geocache Description:

Located near the Natural Bridge Picnic Area outside of Hayfork.

Although this is a remote area, it is one that you have to come and see to appreciate the work of nature as the cache is located near a natural limestone arch that is about 100 ft wide, 50 feet high and 200 feet across. There is sufficient parking, a picnic table and a pit toilet in the area but no running water except for the stream that runs under the archway.

The history of Kok-Chee-Shup-Chee which means Bundle of Hides due to the color of the rock walls is rather an interesting one and one can find information at this web site.

To get to the bridge, one must take Wildwood Road which is paved then turn onto Bridge Gulch Road which shows clear directions to Natural Bridge, the dirt road is driveable with the family car. We drove a Volvo and had no difficulty although you need to take your time for the approximate 1 mile distance afterwhich you take the left fork down the hill to a small stream which is easy to drive across. The left fork of the road ends in the parking lot close to the picnic table area. To get to the cache itself, one must take the primary trail that runs parallel to the main stream you drove across and next to the picnic table until they get to the arch. Do not take the trail going up the hill to the left of the table but stay parallel to the main stream. Once at the arch, you enter at the left side, cross the stream beneath the arch (it's neat here, like a big cave you can see through) then exit the opposite end to the right of the large pointed rock where the main trail resumes. At that point follow your GPS and the clues provided.

Natural Bridge can be visited by most anyone but the rocks can be a little slippery. Our party consisted of three adults and one 12 year old young lady. Mothers may want to have their children in rubber boots to help cross the water so they don't have to hop on the rocks but it is not a difficult task and we wore regular jogging shoes.

The Cache is a large size surplus ammo box painted dark brown and contains lots of neat stuff such as a calculator, watch, coin from Australia, toys for kids and stuff for mom and dad. If dad feels he should be home working on the house, there is even an item or two in the cache to help him out when he gets home, so his trip to the Natural Bridge won't be a waste. Since the initial posting, travel bug Boo Boo Kitty departed the area and headed towards her destination.Although this is a remote area, it is one that you have to come and see to appreciate the work of nature as the cache is located near a natural limestone arch that is about 100 ft wide, 50 feet high and 200 feet across.
