The Gap – at the bottom of Fraser's Hill – used to be the waiting point for cars going up the Gap road to Bukit Fraser. The old Gap road is a winding, narrow 8 km stretch of road leading to Fraser's Hill. This used to be the only access road. Since it is too narrow for two cars to pass each other, this road used to operate on a strict time schedule: even hours coming down from the hill station and uneven hours going up. Since the “New Road” (build in 2001) has finally been reopened in 2011 - landslides had initially forced it to be closed again – traffic to Fraser's Hill is no longer restricted.
A historic relict at the Gap is what remains of “The Gap Resthouse”. The glory days of this once beautiful Tudor bungalow seem to be gone for good. It was a favorite stop for birdwatchers, bikers, antique car drivers and anyone passing by, enjoying a tea, a meal or a night at this charming place. Unfortunately “The Gap Resthouse” has been given back to nature.
Though there is no longer a need to wait at the Gap before you can head up to Bukit Fraser, why not stop for a moment. Check out the Gap pedestrian suspension bridge and enjoy a refreshment at the small food stall at the car park. If you don’t have small kids with you, you can even venture into the now dilapidated “The Gap Resthouse”. Beware, there’s lots of broken glass around. Last but not least – find the Gap Cache! ;) You’re right at the border of Selangor and Pahang. You will find the cache in Selangor.
A rainbow colored “I Love Geocaching” wristband is waiting for the First to Find! Go get it!
