Geocache Description:

Down the Line is a series of  caches to mark the Belfast to Bangor stretch of the Belfast & County Down Railway (BCDR).

On the 2nd August 1848 the first section of line from Belfast to Holywood opened to passenger traffic for the first time. Later the line would extend to Bangor and the main line would run from Belfast to Newcastle with branches to Donagadee, Ballynahinch and Ardglass.

Pictured above is a BCDR Railmotor that operated on the Bangor and Dundonald line. Three of these locomotives were built between 1905-06. distinctively the engine and carriage are integrated.

The cache itself is a bit bigger than a 35mm film cannister and can be accessed from the road. There is room for parking where the road is wider about 50m back towards the dual carriageway. It is a reasonably quite road, however please watch out for cars.
