Geocache Description:

This is a gathering of experienced and brand-new geocachers, or even those who think they MIGHT be interested.

Whether you are a seasoned geocacher or want to learn just what this strange sport is...you are invited to Cache at the Gorge.

This event is presented by Friends of Tallulah Gorge State Park. Team EBBJr. will give an overview of the basics of geocaching (for those who need to know), or you can skip that part, meet a few people, grab a cookie and head out to find several great caches in this beautiful park, including the Tallulah Gorge State Park Cache, Tallulah Gorge: A product of Rock and Water (earth cache), Authorized Tallulah Gorge Cache, plus a brand new cache placed just for this occasion.

One of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a permit to hike to the gorge floor (100 per day, not available during water releases). A suspension bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls.  Tightrope walkers have twice crossed the gorge, and visitors can still see towers used by Karl Wallenda.  A paved path follows an on old railroad bed, perfect for strollers and bicycles, while mountain bikers can test their skills on a challenging 10-mile trail.

Within five miles of the Tallulah Gorge State Park Cache are: What a Sight, Happy Crossing, Hot Boiled Peanuts, Colonel Huff-N-Puff, “Grand” Cache on Panther Creek, We Don’t Need No Stinkin Blue Blazes, guard the rail, Yonah Swing??, Panther Creek Gorgeous, What Blue Blazes? And there are many, many others to choose from, either in Rabun (north) or Habersham (south) County.  It’s a great caching area!

The posted coordinates are for the Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center at Tallulah Gorge State Park.  We will be in the meeting room inside. The standard State Parks $5.00 parking fee applies, unless you have a Park Pass.

Please log a “will attend” if you are planning to come. We hope to see you here! The event begins at 1 p.m. and the information/socializing should last 1-2 hours. The caching can last as long as you want!
