Geocache Description:

You can park your vehicle at WP1. The total walk from there is around 500 mtrs. Bring some bird food/bread to feed the ducks and swans. There are swings for the kids and fitness equipment for the adults, and a covered table to eat under.

Milperra is an aboriginal word meaning 'a gathering of people'. The land was originally owned by George Johnson Jr. when it was commonly known as Thorn's Bush. In 1917, the area was established as a Soldiers Settlement and many returned servicemen from the Great War established poultry farms and vegetable gardens. Many of the streets in Milperra are named after First World War battlefields and Victoria Cross recipients, the details of which are displayed on blue signs beneath the street name. Milperra celebrated 100 years in 2017 and a monument has been placed on the corner of Amiens Avenue and Henry Lawson Drive to mark this event. Milperra rests on the eastern bank of the Georges River and features a number of parks and reserves, including Deepwater Park, Vale of Ah and Riverland's Golf Course. The lake before you was originally a quarry, the contents of which were taken to Sydney Harbour and used to link Garden Island (which was an island) to the shore. The quarry eventually filled with water and even had a couple of islands in it. It was a great playground for the young people of the area by whom it was colloquially called "The Swamp". In 2012, Bankstown City Council revamped the lake to its current state. It has become a home to a variety of bird life including swans, as well as rabbits. The cache is located at S 33 56 ABC E150 58 DEF. WP1 Patrick Joseph Bugden - Multiply the sum of all the numbers on the blue sign individually (i.e. 1917 = 1 + 9 + 1 + 7 etc) by the number of letters in his first name and then subtract the number of letters in his first name to the result = ABC. James Ernest Newland - Earned his VC for actions at Bapaume in April on which days? _/_ = D/E. WP2 Clifford William King Sadlier - The sum of the total # of R's and E's less the total number of letters in his first name = F. First to find was technically Cheeky Cachers, officially first to log was Steptoe, congratulations to both teams.
