Geocache Description:


This park is the James H. Wienen Memorial Park. James was a visionary and a dreamer. While growing up he had big ideas for the future and wasn’t afraid to tell others of his plans. This earned him the nickname of “Windy”.

Jim followed through on his plans and accomplished many of his goals. He was a Real Estate Developer and contractor. The results of his work are seen all over Galena. He did what he said he would do.

Unfortunately Jim died young. He was a rising star and now he is with the stars. He is gone but not forgotten. Who knows what he could have accomplished if he were still with us.

There is a monument to James H. Wienen straight ahead from the park entrance. The people of Galena knew him as Windy. This cache is for him.

The entrance to the park is at the intersection of S. Dodge Street and Mississippi Street. The park closes to traffic for the winter but this cache will be accessible in winter.

Slow down approaching the entrance. There is a speed bump.
