The new pedestrian bridge on the Rock of Count D'Óbidos, replaced the drawbridge built in 1926. The new metal bridge built over the access channel to the Alcântara Dock on the north bank, at the same location of the old structure.
Like the old bridge, the new structure is movable and rotatable in opening 30 minute intervals for about one minute to allow passage of vessels, it is expected that during the night the bridge is permanently open for navigation.
The structure operates semi-automatic locating the position of command and control building in the VTS (Center for Coordination and Control of Maritime Traffic) in Boksburg, from which traders observe everything that is happening nearby the bridge through cameras installed on site.
The current bridge, which was decommissioned six years ago, enabled them to avoid giving back by Alcantara and go directly to the Rock Station.
A nova ponte para peões na Rocha do Conde D' Óbidos, substituiu a ponte móvel construída em 1926. A nova ponte metálica construída sobre o canal de acesso à Doca de Alcântara, na margem norte, no mesmo local da antiga estrutura.
Tal como a antiga ponte, a nova estrutura é móvel e rotativa, abrindo em intervalos de 30 minutos, durante cerca de um minuto, para permitir a passagem de embarcações, prevendo-se que durante a noite a ponte esteja permanentemente aberta à navegação.
A estrutura funciona de modo semi-automático, localizando-se o posto de comando e controlo no edifício do VTS (Centro de Coordenação e Controlo do Tráfego Marítimo), em Algés, a partir do qual os operadores observam tudo o que se passa nas imediações da ponte através de câmaras instaladas no local.
A actual ponte, desactivada há seis anos, permitia evitar dar a volta por Alcântara e ir directamente à Estação da Rocha.
