In baseball, a line drive is a type of batted ball, sharply hit, and on or above a level trajectory.

July 22, 2007, Tulsa Drillers first base coach Mike Coolbaugh was killed in a line drive accident at an away game with the Arkansas Travelers.

Reminiscing
Being more at home within a handful of leather than with a chunk of aluminium, line drives weren't exactly a feature of my game. Possibly the one notable exception was against TB.

Now TB could throw some heat and didn't mind doing so and his career number of K's must have been impressive. However, after sending me back to the bench on any number of occasions, I think I finally figured him out.

Halfway through the '84 Grannie, I decided that he wasn't going to K me again. I realised that his first pitch was usually a fast one straight through the zone after which he'd throw fast curly stuff and work the corners of the zone until you were on your way back to the bench, head down, as yet another TB K statistic! So from that day on, I went after his first pitch.
Although he still got me out quite a few times, he never struck me out again!
The high point of my theory was one day at Werribee when I got a couple of hits off him (and was the only one on the team to do so), including a line-drive double down the left field line.
After the game, TB came up to me, said well played and bought me a beer.
