Geocache Description:

Where they make monks bowls.

In Thailand monks must get up early in the morning and go beg for their food from the community. This is a fantastic tradition that keeps the monks in tune with the community. So they are dressed in their saffron robes walking the streets and folk who are careing and religious get up early and make offerings of food to the monks as they walk by.

The tradition is that the monk would have a bowl to collect these alms and it is called a "Bat". It has not changed in centuries save now they put food that is contained in a plastic bag where as in times of old it all kind of mixed together. This community left
Ayutthaya and moved to Bangkok to what was then the outskirts of the city. Once there were many who made the bowls now there is only one family firm left due to the ease of making bowl with modern methods in factories.

Tradition is that the bowl is made of eight pieces that are hammered together and then kept as one with a metal rim. The whole process takes about 2 days.
