This is a mud castle on the plain around Mihocheon River. Its exact built date is unknown but we could assume that the mud castle was built between the late 9th Century and the early 10th Century, when Three Dynasties fought each other, based on the records from Sangdangsanseonggogeumsajeokgi or the History of Sangdang Mountain Castle saying Gyeonhwon built a mud castle, believed to be Jeongbukdong Mountain Castle, here after he took Sangdang Mountain Castle built and used as the capital by Gungye. However it could be older than assumed, considering its location, the excavations from the site and its excavated facilities very similar to those found from the older castles. The castle is 675m long, 3.5m tall and 8 to 13m wide. On the castle site the old habitats, the holes for the poles, the roads and the pile of stone have been excavated, and on the outside of the castle the partial traces of a moat have been found. With its structure and excavated vestiges, the mud castle has given a quite valuable clue for the research on the fortification of the ancient Korea.
