Geocache Description:

This is an easy multi and won't take longer than 5 minutes as it only has one stage. The cache at the final is a PET with a logbook and a pencil. - Set in the lovely valley of Lismacteige near Ballyvaughan, this multi features an ancient church and a graveyard that do not often make it on people's itineraries. I want to change that!

Start at the main coordinates - find the spot where there are 3 plaques of the same family with a funny name set into the wall.

Coordinates of final stage: N 53 05. (a)  W009 (b).(c)

Working on the coords from the left plaque to the right plaque, calculate each part of the coords as follows:
left plaque: How long did this person live? Add the livespan to the figure 170 to get (a).
middle plaque: How old did HJK get? Substract his age from the figure 88 to get (b).
right plaque: The first figure on that plaque is the FINAL (!) figure in (c). Literally!

You can easily drive up to the church and park right there (easily enough space for 2 cars), or cycle up from Ballyvaughan over the back roads (Cappanawall road) past the Burren College of Art with its 16th century castle.

The FTF BOHSTOM had a special encounter which led to this log entry. I copy it here with his permission: "My exit from the lane was blocked by a tractor so I got chatting with Gerry Clancy whose fields abut the church grounds. He showed me various features in the cemetery including the font, carving styles on headstones, the tunnel the priests used long ago to escape from the church. Apparently this used to run into a field at the back of the cemetery. He pointed out the line of the original "road" which ran through the area a few hundred years ago. You can see the outline in one of the fields where there's a line of trees running in the direction of the hills and parallel to the cemetery wall. This is opposite the farm buildings on the opposite side of the lane."

The Church Micro IE series is open to everyone; if you have a church you would like to place a cache at then please contact THE_Chris through Geocaching.com. This is to keep track of the numbers of the churches and give you the general format for the cache page. In the UK there are ~3500 caches in the series so we have some catching up to do! Also, if you currently have a published cache at a church that you would like to include in the series, get in contact and we can add it.
