Geocache Description:

In a departure from the utility theme, here we have a water tower used by the old steam railway.

This tower was built by Collins and Barber of Downham Market in 1894 and the tank was supplied by Head Wrightson for the princely sum of £114.  Unlike most water towers for locomotives, this tower also supplied water for the station.

Manningtree station has another interesting feature, it is home to one of only three surviving horse stables in Essex built by the railway companies, this is well worth a look as well.
