Geocache Description:

A Canadian inspired hide, a country where geocachers are not afraid of sub-zero temperatures and a few feet of snow outside for 4-5 months of the year... But the geocaches must be hidden to allow for that! While I visited the country (in summer) I had a lot of fun finding caches, most of which were hidden in ways I had never seen before in New Zealand.

The hide you are looking for is inspired by  geocache SN, Grandes Piles #2, (85), (Bilingual). This is the cache I struggled most to find. Actually if it wasn't for my father, an experienced Canadian cacher, I don't think I would have ever found it. The GPS was bouncing around under the trees, turned out to be 12m offset for me, and there was NO HINT! (As if anyone would know how to find this thing!)

My winter cache in Rotorua is a little easier to find than that. It is situated along the Pohaturoa track, in what is generally known as the Redwood forest in Rotorua. Just 2 years ago there was only one cache along this trail, but now there are quite a few and it could almost be called a power trail. It would be worth doing for any visitor to the area, as it is so close to town. For a full list of the caches available along the Pohaturoa walk, see the bookmark list on this cache page.

To complete the whole walk, which is lovely and would probably take you 3h or more with all the cache hunting, start from the Redwoods carpark off Tarawera Rd. For a quick dive to do this cache only, the Waipa mountain bike carpark at the south end of town will be the way to go.

You are looking for a 600ml screw-top container wrapped in camo tape.

Please, use your EYES! You can see it without having to touch anything. Do not thrash the environment looking for it, and put back the cache exactly as you found it. The difficulty rating is a bit high, considering the different hide and difficulty in getting a good GPS fix under the trees. It also means you may take a few minutes to spot it. Be patient. Thanks.
