One of Scotland’s Great Trails, the Cateran Trail is a fully waymarked, 64-mile / 103 km route through Perthshire and the Angus glens in the heart of Scotland. It follows old drove roads and ancient tracks across a varied terrain of farmland, forests and moors. Some of these routes follow the same ones used by the Caterans – fearsome cattle thieves who raided Strathardle, Glenshee and Glen Isla from the Middle Ages to the 17th century and for whom the Trail is named.
The Trail can be tackled in five easy stages. (Or walked in 4/5 days.) It is fully waymarked with Cateran Trail signs – plus a few unique hand-carved posts. It is advisable to carry a map and cache safely i.e equipped for all weather conditions.
This is the second stage of the Cateran Trail linking Kirkmichael via Enochdhu to Spittal of Glenshee, a distance of 8 miles (13km).
Heading to the highest part of this stage now before you head downhill towards Spittal of Glenshee. Breathtaking views, definately a camera shot. Then head downhill towards the next section of the walk.
