Geocache Description:

[ITA] Il Rifugio CAI "Città di Fiume" si trova ai piedi della parete settentrionale del Monte Pelmo ed è raggiungibile con una facile passeggiata partendo dalla Forcella Staulanza, posta sulla SS 251 che mette in comunicazione la Val di Zoldo con la Val Fiorentina.
E' stato ricavato sulla struttura di un'antico edificio originario del 1600, Malga Durona, ed inaugurato il 20 settembre 1964.
Oltre alla particolare estetica dell'edificio, caratterizzata da tre vani ad arco al pian terreno che rimandano alla originaria destinazione a stalla, il rifugio presenta un altro carattere di unicità: davanti ad esso sventola, accanto al tricolore italiano, anche la bandiera di Fiume, città oggi appartenente al territorio della Croazia.
Il Club Alpino Fiumano nasce il 12 gennaio 1885 nella bella e dinamica città di Fiume, porto importantissimo dell’Ungheria (sotto la cui amministrazione è posta dal 1870) che le riconosce il diritto al libero uso della lingua italiana. Il suo statuto riceve l’approvazione del Regio Governo Ungherese.
Nel 1919 il Congresso generale del CAI accoglie la domanda del CAF di aderire al Club Alpino Italiano quale Sezione di Fiume, in un momento in cui la città non era ancora stata annessa al Regno d’Italia (l'unione della città all’Italia avviene nel 1924, dopo vicissitudini varie). La Sezione, molto attiva, arriva nel tempo ad essere proprietaria di sei rifugi: tre nel gruppo del Monte Maggiore e tre nella zona del Monte Nevoso.
Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, con l’esodo forzato da Fiume, Pola e Dalmazia, anche il CAI Fiumano intraprende la strada dell’esilio. Nel febbraio 1949 ha luogo il primo Raduno, nel corso del quale viene presa la decisione di ricostituirsi a Sezione, inizialmente come sottosezione della Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini. Nel 1953 il Consiglio Centrale del CAI riconosce alla Sezione di Fiume tutta la sua storia ed i suoi diritti.
Il Rifugio è stato restaurato nel 2005-2006 ed inaugurato una seconda volta il 10 giugno 2007, ed è ora gestito dalla cooperativa Arcanda.

[ENG] The "Città di Fiume" mountain refuge is located at the foot of Mount Pelmo Northern wall and can be easily reached by foot starting from Staulanza Fork, which is located on National Road 251 connecting the Zoldo valley with the Fiorentina valley.
It was built on the structure of an old original building of 1600, Malga Durona, and was first opened on September 20, 1964. Besides the particular aesthetics of the building, characterized by three arched rooms on the ground floor that refer to the original destination as a barn, the shelter has another unique character: in front of it you'll see waving, next to the Italian tricolor, also the flag of Fiume, a city ​​now belonging to Croatia with the name of Rijeka.
The Fiume Alpine Club was founded on January 12, 1885 in the beautiful and dynamic city of Fiume, at the time an important port of Hungary (under whose administration had been set since 1870) that recognized the right to free use of the Italian language. Its statute received the the Royal Hungarian Government approval. In 1919, the CAI General Conference accepted the application of the CAF to join the Italian Alpine Club as the Fiume section, even if at a time the city had not yet been annexed to the Kingdom of Italy (the union of the city to mainland took place in 1924, after various vicissitudes). The Section was very active, and shortly built six Alpine shelters: three in the Monte Maggiore group, and three in the area of Monte Nevoso.
After WWII, with the Italian exodus from Rijeka, Pula, and Dalmatia, also the CAI section take the road of exile. In February 1949, the first gathering took place, during which the decision to recover the section was taken, initially as a subsection of the Trento Alpinists Society. In 1953 the CAI Board of Directors comittee recognized to the Section of Fiume its rights and history.
The hut has been restored in 2005-2006 and was inaugurated for the second time on June 10, 2007; it is now managed by the cooperative Arcanda.
