The Village of Delia was issued its charter on July 20, 1914. It was named after the wife (her first name) of the area's first postmaster A. L. Davis.
Prior to that, it was called Highland because it was the highest point on the C.N.R. railway between Calgary and Saskatoon. If you travel 8 km south from Delia to the Handhills, you can enjoy the view. On a clear day, you can actually see the Rockies from the top of the Handhills (plus find a few more caches ;) ).
In 1999, Delia was used in a movie called Knockaround Guys standing in for Wibaux, Montana. At approximately 34 minutes into the movie, Seth Green, Vin Diesel, Barry Pepper, and Andrew Davoli are seen by Tom Noonan at this particular location.
UPDATE: In June 2019, Delia and again, this particular location were used in another movie called Hands That Bind. On set that day was Nicholas Campbell, among other actors. I may have to change the name of this cache to Little Hollywood North. ;-) LOL Stay tuned for more updates.
Please do not interfere with the gas meter equipment; the cache is not part of it. This cache has been placed with the permission of the property owners. I hope you enjoy my first cache and if you've never been here before, welcome to Delia too. FTF gets a few Delia souvenirs.
If you somehow have a personal connection to Delia (you grew up here, you're related to someone from Delia, you know someone from Delia, whatever :-) ), I'd love to hear about it (other than you've geocached here of course). Despite its small size and relative isolation, some of my friends think everyone is somehow connected to Delia. This is the opportunity to prove me right or wrong. :-)
