Geocache Description:

The cache is located above the bush line at 1433 metres. There are outstanding mountain and valley views.  It is fairly exposed so take adequate precautions in case of inclement weather.

The walk up is on a rugged track in parts but well marked and easy to follow.  It passes through magic native forest areas with moss covering everything on the ground and trees with lichen drooping looking like "Old Man's Beard".  Some areas are rocky and there are many tree roots to negotiate - Take walking poles to assist balance.  The lower part of the track is boggy in parts.  Boots advised.

Bird life is impressive with robins quick to visit hoping for disturbed leaves and mulch revealing a tasty lunch.  So tame and bold they practically land on your boots in their quest.

From the cache site there are wonderful mountain views all around and well worth the hike.

Recommended parking is at the beginning of St James Trail.  There is a new track cut by DOC across and up the road approx 100 metres. There is no need to park higher up in a more difficult roadside spot.

You are looking for a black screw top container with a log book in a ziplock bag. BYO pen.
