Gore’s Landing was named after Thomas Gore, an Irishman who settled in the vicinity in 1845. The Landing was the terminal point for a plank road from Cobourg to Rice Lake. Several renowned personages have been residents including: Archibald Lampman (poet), J.D. Kelly (historical artist), G.S. Hayward (miniaturist painter), Catherine Parr Traill (writer). The Landing continues to attract artisans, poets and writers and serves as a link to the heritage of Ontario’s past.
