Geocache Description:

OLDTOWN COVE
A cache near to Oldtown Cove area of the Camel Trail
GC460XW
OLDTOWN COVE
Oldtown Cove
This location nestles near to the River Camel, and is an ideal setting to access the Camel Trail from Lower Halwyn/Old Town Cove. This cache has a letterbox stamp in it; in this case an Elephant; this has a link: The Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway was built following a study commissioned in 1831, with the line intended to carry sand from the Camel Estuary to inland farms for use as fertiliser. It was opened on 30 September 1834 with the locomotive 'Camel' pulling a train load of 400 passengers (one of the first railways in Britain to carry passengers). When the company ordered its second locomotive it came with a name plate already affixed, having been named 'Elephant' as the makers had failed to realise that the first engine had been named after the river and not an animal!
Cache Information This cache is a small silver/clear plastic tub, with logbook and letterbox stamp (bring your own ink), located on the river side of the trail, with parking available at Lower Halwyn. Please replace the stamp after use - Do not remove it from the cache..
