Geocache Description:

Hi, I'm Geoff the geocacher and this is a story about favourite places and memories as I grew up in and around my hometown.

Our house was at 35 Bond St, it had 4 bedrooms and a 2 car garage. We had a cat but never had a dog. There were 3 massive gum trees in the front yard that really defined the look of the house.

Our St Alan's church in Virginia Ave was a centre of activity. We were there on Sundays of course and another 2 times a week for singing or music groups. There were about 60 families at our church and it felt like we were all 1 big family.

I have happy memories of my 7 years at primary school. The highlight for me was about once a term, mum would give me 40 cents for a bought lunch at the tuck shop nearby on the corner of Park Lane and New York Ave. I always chose a sausage roll or a jam donut!

My best mate during primary school was in the same class as me for grades 1, 4 and 6. I think his place was at 8 Oriental Ave but my memory is a bit hazy on that. I know his older brother had a really cool 8 cylinder station wagon and we used to ride around in the back seat with no seat belts!

One of my favourite places in my hometown would have to be the scout hall for 3rd Whitehall scout group. There are many happy memories tied up in that place. In looking back I’ve been involved in scouting for 23 years now and 18 of them were here.

Vermont High School was riding distance from my place. When I was in year 8 I had saved enough money to buy my own bike for £69. Over the years it took a hammering. Every part of the bike got smashed or broken somehow, but it was still the same bike.

When I was a bit older I had a really great bar job at the Old Kent in Kings Cross. 1 of the tests for getting the job was to pour 6 beers without turning the tap off. I worked from 17:00 to 22:30 on Thursdays and Saturdays. It was a great time.

I remember getting picked up by the police loitering in the local park on Mediterranean Ave. 3 mates and I decided that it'd be a good spot for a late night "picnic". We told the 2 coppers that our parents expected us home by 11:30. They told us that we didn't want to go to jail, so they sent us home straight away, it was only 10:15!

My first car was a bright orange 73 Mazda, I loved the freedom of driving around my hometown. My first big road trip was to drive it between Trafalgar Square and Coventry, a trip of 107 miles mostly along the M40. That was a great car, it averaged 26mpg on the highway and about 21mpg around town.

That was then. GZ is hometown now.

The cache is not at the given coordinates, although it's within a couple of furlongs. Bring a pencil and good luck, you'll need to watch out for sporting muggles at this pretty area!
