Six Feet Under is an American drama television series created and produced by Alan Ball ( American Beauty & True Blood ) It premiered on the HBO network in the United States in June 2001 and ended in August 2005, spanning five seasons and 63 episodes. The series has been a particular favorite of ours and its location to a nearby funeral home is an appropriate place for it. The show is about the members of the Fisher family, who run their funeral home in Los Angeles. It traces these characters' lives over the course of five years. The drama stars Peter Krause ( Parenthood ) Michael C. Hall, ( Dexter ) Frances Conroy ( American Horror Story ) Lauren Ambrose ( Torchwood ) Freddy Rodriguez ( Ugly Betty ) Mathew St. Patrick ( All My Children ) and Rachel Griffiths ( Muriel's Wedding, Brothers and Sisters ) as the show's seven main characters. The series has received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing and acting, and consistently drew high ratings for the HBO network. The series has frequently been described by critics as one of the greatest of all time as well as having one of the finest series finales in the history of television. It won numerous awards, including 9 Emmy Awards, 3 Screen Actors Guild Awards and 3 Golden Globe Awards.
