Geocache Description:

This weekend marks the 11th Annual Cache In Trash Out weekend!

This CITO event will bring Geocachers back to their roots in the mountains and provide aide to our forests in need. The event will begin at 8:00 am and end at 12:30 pm. We will meet at the San Gabriel Canyon Environmental Education Center in the Angeles National Forest, across from the Rincon Fire Station and just past the OHV parking area. Here we will assist the Forest Service in transplanting native seedlings into larger pots and in tree planting of larger specimens into the ground, in areas that have been subject to fire. The exact details of the needs of the Forest Service in their tree planting will be made available closer to or on the day of the event. Actual tree planting will take place elsewhere and locations will be provided by the Forest Service based on need and volunteer turnout.

Attendees should bring their own work or gardening gloves to wear. bring and/or wear appropriate comfortable clothing and footwear for the anticipated weather conditions. For example; boots or sneakers, hat, jeans or work pants (I suggest a long sleeve shirt, since sleeves can be rolled up as temperatures rise. It's also recommended to bring sunscreen and an extra jacket or sweatshirt. Don't forget to bring a snack and some water for yourself, though I will bring a large 10 gallon jug of water to share. Any tools needed will be provided by the Forest Service.

Parking permits (Adventure Pass) are not required at the meeting location. I recommend carpooling and making sure you have a full tank of fuel to begin the day, just in case. I will be driving and can carry three to four adults plus their gear. The locations for two convenient park and ride meeting spots will be posted in the additional waypoints section below. Plan a little extra time for the drive up, which could take up to 30 minutes from the 210 fwy.

Please try to post the number of people in your group when you log your "will attend" logs. This number will help the Forest Service plan for adequate parking. Non-geocachers of all ages are more than welcome to join in the fun. (This program qualifies as community service hours, too!)

(Poor weather may cause cancellation. An info # will be published if eminent.)
