Definitely one of the high points of a visit to central KZN, the road to Msinga Top climbs 650m above the nearby town of Tugela Ferry. Renown for pre-1994 election violence, XDR TB, and a local hospital providing sought-after medical care despite difficult circumstances. The ferry itself was decommisioned after being replaced by a steel one-way bridge built in 1936 by Italian prisoners of war. It now boasts the only robot between Greytown and Dundee.
The top overlooks the Buffels River and its intersection with the Tugela, with a view over the mountains stretching into the distance. Beware of the almost vertical drop into a small settlement about 400m below!
The road winding to the top is tarred up until the local clinic. The last few hundred metres are dirt, but shouldn't be a problem for most vehicles. Park at the radio tower; the cache is less than 5 minutes walk from the road. Not accessible by wheelchair.
Cache contains: purple car, blue marble, lumo pen, pink balloon, traditional beaded lady, and SA flag geocoin wanting to visit all 9 provinces in 2013.
