Geocache Description:

In Edo era, Tamagawa waterworks reached this location.
The cache is hidden near the monument of the waterworks.
Policemen often appear at GZ. Please avoid suspicious activity.

玉川上水の終点、四谷大木戸
玉川上水記念碑が新宿区役所四谷庁舎前に建っています。玉川上水の清流復活区間は 浅間橋跡 でおしまいですが、本来の上水終点はここ「四谷大木戸」でした。江戸時代、ここから水は石樋や木樋で各所に配分されていたそうです。
明治31年(1897)に淀橋浄水場が完工して主役の座を降りましたが、昭和の時代に入っても水衛所があったようです。羽村を0とすると8番目の水衛所になります。
この界隈を知るのに、「玉川上水武蔵野ふしぎ散歩」という書籍が参考になりました。こちらもぜひ読んでいただければと思います。

注意：韓国大使館がそばにあるせいか、警官出没率がとても高いことがわかりました。無理な捜索はしないよう、お願いします。
