Geocache Description:

When is a hill not a hill?
When it's a bronze age burial cairn.
So put away your climbing gear and come see this hidden gem.

This must be one of Scotland’s most closely passed but little seen archaeological sites.
Huly Hill is a large and well preserved Bronze Age burial cairn adjacent to Newbridge Roundabout.
The grassy burial cairn, or tumulus, was originally surrounded by a standing stone circle, three stones remain and across the roundabout towards Edinburgh there is one remaining stone from an outer ring.
It is a curiously quiet place to visit, lying as it does under the airport flight-path.
The site is ringed by yew bushes and holly trees which in ancient times were associated with religious sites and the underworld.

Also, the Newbridge Chariot was uncovered during an archaeological excavation near the burial cairn in 2001.
The Iron-Age chariot had been buried intact.  It is the only Iron-Age chariot to ever be found in Scotland.
The chariot has been radiocarbon dated to the 5th century BC.

A devilish token is within this cache for the first to find.

The cache is not at this location which is a scheduled ancient monument but is just outside the perimeter, at the given co-ordinates at an aptly named location.

Due to recent muggling I have hidden a smaller cache here, sorry no room for swaps. Please bring your own pen.
