Twixt Rail and River (1) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

runnerbeans: Visited the site today and found that this cache has definitely gone missing, probably since the Council did their stuff nearby. They may have picked it up and binned it, or it may even have slipped down a hole into the river. Because all the cover in which the cache had been hidden has been cleared away, I can't see how I can securely replace it. So I think it will be best to archive the cache. I may, with the reviewer's permission, resurrect it in another spot. Sorry folks! Regards Runnerbeans (CO)

Geocache Description:

The River Deben at Woodbridge is very popular with those who like messing about in boats (as they say). At high tide the river often is filled with sailing craft. But the boats that are normally seen near this cache's GZ are not going anywhere, as they are mainly house boats with a few wrecks thrown in for good measure. Nevertheless there are lovely views across the river, and low tide is an ornithologist's delight as there are waders of all shapes and sizes probing the mud for food. This cache is hidden along a footpath that leads from Woodbridge to Melton alongside the river. Across the river from GZ is the site of the Anglo-Saxon ship burial at Sutton Hoo, and on clear days in winter, when the trees are bare, you might be able to spot Tranmer House where Mrs Edith Pretty, who was responsible for initiating the excavation of the site in the late 1930s, used to live. Once you have found this cache, if you have not already done so, you might care to carry on upstream to "It's a Pretty View" and try your luck there too. The cache is a medium sized lock and lock container, with room for tradeable items, TBs and of course a logbook and pencil.
