Geocache Description:

you are looking for a nano cache and the difficulty rating is 2 as if its a nice day it could be muggle heaven.
This is near the bottom of the tramline and the hill doesn't look so steep from here but your view of that will change if you decide to walk of the tram depot cache.
there was a few mtr error

Brought to Matlock by Job Smith the Matlock Cable Tramway in1893 and he based it upon those in San Francisco. The popularity of the town as a Hydrotherapy Centre at that time, made the tramway very necessary as the railway station was by the river, and the Hydros were all up the Hillside.

The trams were hauled up Bank Road by a continuously moving cable under the road. Cables needed replacing, on average about once a year, one of the reasons which made the enterprise unviable economically and closed in 1927.
The famous Tram shelter in Crown Square (this can still be found in Hall Leys Park)
Geroge Marks constructed the Matlock Incline which was 0.5 mile long up a gradient of 1 in 5. It was a single track with a passing loop. Two stationary engines pulled an endless chain around 5mph. The two double decker cars used grippers and could hop on and off the chain.
The line went from the centre of Matlock up the hill to the baths at Matlock bank. The stationary engines were steam powered and the cable could be stopped easily using a clutch. The cable was sunk below the ground all the way from Crown Square to the depot in Wellington st. Major features were the sharp curves, particularly problematic was the two cables running in the same conduit at these sharp curves. Although a single track there are passing places where the cars can pass each other. At the at the top of the line the car had to release from the up cable and change to the down cable.
