A flash Event showcasing one of The Many Venues to experience thE Iditarod 2013 anchorage Ceremonial START
Thru the Tunnel
11:00 AM
Saturday March 2, 2013
When the Iditarod Sled Dog Race begins with the Ceremonial Start on the first Saturday in March, I’m about as ready to run from viewing area to viewing area as the pups are to pull those sleds from Willow to Nome. The official start is 10AM in downtown Anchorage on 4th Avenue and D Street. Maybe you will have seen the start before working your way to this location.
Join me at one of my favorite viewing areas. See the mushers and their teams as they come out of the tunnel and make a 90-degree turn onto the bridge which spans the creek. This is an area where a friend was tossed a dog bootie; quite a souvenir of the Last Great Race. There is usually plenty of parking at this site or within 500 feet or so.
There will be 15 minutes to sign in, receive an Iditarod Challenge card and take a photo. You will be able to accrue points toward geocaching and Iditarod-themed awards. In a way, there will be twists and turns to the challenge to make a game that simulates a board game such as chutes and ladders.
If you as crazy as I am about the Iditarod, then check out these events too.
