Denmead Memorial Hall

I chose this particular hall for the first in the series as it has been greatly used by my family, particuarly as my children were growing up for countless birthday parties, classes and toddler groups. It is also a venue where I have enjoyed organising many of the Village New Years Eve parties and it has been a convenient place to stagger home from in the early hours.
The Hall was built in the 1920s by public subscription to honour the local people killed and wounded in the First World War. The hall has been in almost continuous use by local people for their educational and social benefit since that time. A fire in 1988 caused major damage, and the hall was repaired and reopened in 1989. The kitchen and toilets were extended, and the disabled toilet was added in 2005.
