SHALDON BRIDGE TOLL HOUSE Placed at strategic places along the travel routes Toll Houses and booths collected money from passing traffic used for the upkeep of the roads – with a variety of fees for pedestrians, horses, and vehicles. Built in 1827 this Toll House collected fees for crossing the bridge which only ceased in 1948 and the porch outside the door was demolished Now a private dwelling which has recently changed hands on a busy bridge . The cache is a little distance away. Possible parking at nearby supermarket (20 minutes)or in side street – most easily opposite the hospital in First Drive.Suggest using the pedestrian crossing as the road can be very busy.The footpath is used by dog walkers and others so please hide well
