Geocache Description:

A nocturnal predator has to move through the forest undetected. They need to see the prey, but if they are going to eat, the prey cannot see them until it is too late. Going through trees, over obstacles, crossing streams, and hopefully catching a glimpse of the prey is the goal of any nocturnal woodland predator. Your goal is to find the prey.

This is a night cache. At the posted coordinates, shine your flashlight into the woods towards the East. You will be looking for small reflectors mounted on trees (they don’t hurt the trees). Holding the flashlight at eye level will give the best results. Once you see the reflector, walk towards that reflector, then the next one, and so on. The trail is close to half a mile. The last reflector in the series will have multiply reflectors, and the cache is within 20 feet.

This is a letterbox hybrid which means there is a stamp(s) in the cache. The stamps stay in the cache and are NOT trading items. If you have a stamp please stamp the log, and use the cache’s stamp to stamp your book. If not, just sign the log book as if you would any geocache.

Caching without a GPS. You can easily do this cache without a GPS. Using the maps in geocaching.com, go to the parking lot where the icons appear. Go to the eastern most part of the parking lot and shine your flashlight into the woods, then just follow the reflectors.

Note: The sassafrassasaurus did a couple of night caches and wanted to do a couple of his own. This cache has basically been set up by a 11 year old. We bumped both terrain and difficulty up since this is a night cache. We recommend bringing a friend, bringing some extra batteries for your flashlight, and using a walking stick if you have one. Take it easy, since the ground can be very uneven in spots and things can be buried in snow or leaves. It might also help to think like an 11 year old.

Notes added 4/7/2013

1. Use a good flashlight (we used a 250 lumen)
2. Hold flashlight at eye level - these are NOT firetacks and you will see a lot better with the flashlight at eye level.
3. The course does not follow a path or trail.
4. You are looking for half inch circle reflectors 7 feet off the ground or so.
5. It is best to stand by the reflector until you spot the next one.
