Across the Ythan - Kirktown of Auchterless
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A small series of caches located along the course of the beautiful River Ythan as it meanders through rural Aberdeenshire from the Wells of Ythan to the estuary at Newburgh where the river meets the North Sea.
Continuing on its swing northward from Badenscoth, the Ythan runs through the Howe of Auchterless. On its way it is fed by several other streams, among them the Burn of Lenshie and Scourie Burn as they flow down from the hills to the west of the valley. The fledgling river then passes the small hamlet Kirktown of Auchterless with its surprisingly imposing church.
The cache is located at the little bridge in the village which serves the small road that goes up and over Gordonstown Hill and past some huge new wind turbines on its way to Rothiebrisbane and then Fyvie.
Take care when retrieving the cache, especially in wet weather. Stealth may be required if work is ongoing in the nearby farm.
Bring your own pen.
