Be A Good Neighbor Traditional Cache

The Be a Good Neighbor cache is a kid friendly educational cache located at Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area which has many human and wildlife neighbors around its 1,500 acres of protected land. Please remember to stay on the marked trails as you navigate to the cache. You are in sensitive wildlife habitat! Maps are available inside the Visitors Center or at the parking lot kiosk.

Wild animals enrich our lives and are a vital link to the natural world. We even have animals living in the park that are endangered and threatened species. Some people see wild animals as a nuisance, but it’s important for us to have respect and understanding for wildlife. There also are state and federal laws that protect them.

It’s not easy being a wild animal! They face many dangers from humans. For instance, drivers accidentally kill millions of animals on our roads every year, and developers remove trees and disrupt wildlife habitat to create buildings. Wild animals can be severely stressed by the presence of humans. This stress can weaken them, make them sick, or even kill them.

This cache is close to one of our human neighbors. Can you find evidence of negative human influence on the park? Is it ever OK to feed or catch wild animals? You’ll find the answer and more information inside the cache!

The Morris County Park Commission maintains approximately 1,500 acres in Montville, Kinnelon, and Boonton Township as the Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area. The Pyramid Mountain Visitors Center offers year-round nature programs for all ages as well as 25 miles of nature trails open to the public from dawn to dusk.
