Old St. Nick Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

VegasScotty: Progress has taken it's toll out here. About half of this series is gone so it's time for them all to be put to rest.

Thanks to everyone who came up and solved some of my puzzles!

Geocache Description:

2 Parts: 1) Puzzle: find the new final coordinates on this page right under the hint. 2) Challenge: find one cache with a 3, 4, or 5 character GC code (including the GC part).

This cache is named in honor of my son, Nicholas, who was born 6 Dec... which is St. Nicholas Day... (It was purely coincidental! We were going to call him Nicholas anyway!) So the title is a double pun... ok, forget all that.

This is a 2 part cache. There is a puzzle part, and a challenge part.  Since there is a puzzle portion, the cache IS NOT located at the posted coordinates.  In order to find the cache you will need to find an additional set of coordinates on this page under the hint. Now, in order to get credit for logging this cache you must meet the following prerequisite (challenge):  Find and log a geocache with only 3, 4, or 5 characters in it's GC code number.  This includes the "GC" part, at the beginning of each cache code.

Every cache has a unique GC code number.  The shorter the code, the older the cache.  So I'm asking you to help preserve the history of this great new hobby by finding one of the older caches.

Within 30 miles of this hide there are 5 caches that meet the criteria (they are listed below) and within 100 miles or so, there are 10.  When you log one, come back and get credit for this cache; also, please name the cache you found and it's GC code in your log.

Rules:  The only rule is you have to log the cache who's GC number is 5 characters or less, including the "GC". So if you found GC30 (Mingo) that counts because it is 4 characters long. The caches below, like GC123, are 5 characters long.
Any cache, found anywhere, at anytime, counts for this challenge.

The 5 oldest caches within 30 miles of this cache, are:
  1. GC123, Vegas New Year 2K1 Stash
  2. GC9DD, Outdoor Nevada Geocache #1 - Buffington's Pockets
  3. GC355, The Diamondback Snake Patrol Cache
  4. GC573, Cottonwood Valley Star Wars Cache
  5. GC659, River Mountains Scenic View

Please note, this is just an information list, you do not have to log an old cache off this list, you can go grab one up in Tonopah or use any cache found outside of Las Vegas if you like, since previous finds do count.

For such a young sport there is already a lot of history associated with geocaching, so get out there and experience it.....and cache on!

6/14/13, description updated to clear up some confusion, requirement is for 5 "characters", not 5 "digits".
3/11/15, another good point! Caches found anywhwere count! (they do not have to be NV caches)
11/21/17, updated description
4/23/18, moved container to new location, HINT: see the "Additional Waypoints" for the New Final location.
