Geocache Description:

Now you've gotta admit, that's a great name for a cache! It's even a greater name for an airplane. Only one of these expermiental crafts was ever built and flown. The Vought V-173, orginally known as the "Flying Flapjack", was commisioned by the Navy and flown experimentally from 1942 to 1947. The twin-engine craft was made of a wood and canvas frame and includes 2 huge wooden propellers. Among it's unusual features, it is able to fly at extremely low speeds - about 40MPH. It was used to learn more about aeronautics and was never intended to be a production aircraft. Very close to this cache, you can see the one and only Flying Flapjack and many other historic military and civilian aircraft including dirigibles, hot air balloons, helicopters, an actual space capsule and more.

The entrance to the Frontiers of Flight Museum is only steps away from this cache, and I hope that you plan some time to visit. If you check the paper, you may be able to time your visit with their annual airshow where you can even hitch a ride on historic military aircraft for a true once-in-a-lifetime experience. The volunteers who work at the museum are almost all retired military pilots and flight deck personnel who have hours and hours of great stories for the young and old and everyone in between. Don't forget to check out the excellent exhibit on the very first flying machines from the Wright Brothers' expansion and transition from a small hand-made bicycle shop to a full-fledged aircraft manufacturing facility to the international race to build and sell the earliest motorized aircraft.

The cache is a small container shaped pretty much like a flapjack. It is accessible whether or not the museum is open. The suggested parking waypoint is in the museum's parking lot. If the museum is closed, then the parking lot also will be closed, but you can find parking at several other locations that are not far away, including just outside of the museum parking lot gates. There is a small area to park just beyond the gates that is safe and out of the way of others if the lot is closed on your arrival. I would suggest this parking area rather than anything across the street because it is a very busy road that I urge you not to cross on foot!
