Geocache Description:

This cache will take you on a quick walk around the Antebellum Plantation at Stone Mountain. There is a fee to enter the park ( $10 ). There is also a fee to enter the plantation, but that is optional (and makes finding some of the stages impossible). I highly suggest that you spend a couple of hours walking around in this not so well known gem inside the park.

I hope that you enjoy this quiet(relativley) and beautiful part of the park. It contains some very interesting historical buildings that too many people never stop to take in. This cache will get you familiar with them. Please be respectful of the area and don't damage the landscaping, buildings, fences or other parts of this attraction. Please follow all posted rules and DO NOT climb any fences or illegally enter the plantation area.

If you come during the store hours you can go inside and get free information and map (even if you don't pay to get in). This is not required to find the cache though it may make it much easier.

Once you arrive at the posted coordinates you'll need to locate the following structures:

First locate the Dickey House - it was moved here from Dickey, GA in 1961. Note the number of columns on the front porch (facing the mountain) as A.

Next locate the Powell Academy Schoolhouse, one of DeKalb county's last "one room" schools, built around 1875.
Note the number of steps on the outside facing stairs as B.

Proceed around Shelton's Store originally built in Cherokee county around 1830; originally a post office it now serves as the entrance to the plantation.
Nothing to take note of here but there a restroom nearby.

Go past the Kensington House (circa1875) was originally located on Alleb Plantation and still contains mostly hand blown glass windows.
Note the number of green doors on the north-east facing wall (longer wall towards parking lot) as C.

Continue past the Doctor's Cabin on your left. Built circa 1826, this is believed to be the oldest building in DeKalb county.
Note the total number of windows that you see through as D.

Finally approach the Thorton House (circa 1792). It was moved from Greene County, GA and was owned by Redman Thorton.
Note the total number of chimneys that you can see as E.

On your tour you'll also walk past an old well, the formal garden and gazebo, and many other beautiful structures and landscapes. I hope you enjoy.
