Eagle Scout Multi Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greybeard-42: With stage information slowly disappearing, it's time to archive this one. That just means I will have to make another one, some where else.

BTW, the cache was not in the Riparian, and has been removed from its hiding place.

Geocache Description:

This multi is built upon part of an Eagle Scout project made by Marcus D. Clouse at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve. It has six stages, but only one physical cache (the final) and is about 3/4 of a mile, total distance, from parking thru the stages and back to parking. Note that my 9-year old daughter enjoyed helping me find 14 of the 15 GPS locations (1 is missing).

You might be able to do stage 1 standing outside of the park fence. The park is open 6 am to 10 pm, and the habitat areas are open dawn until dusk. The first path that you will be on, is a habitat area that gets closed for a few weeks every few years.

Read the final stage before leaving the first stage, so that you can collect the information as you go.

Stage 1:  Is a sign used to insert you into the middle of the 15 stage GPS course.  This stage used to have a cipher that you would have to solve; now it is just used to find an offset from the sign's coordinates.

Offset North by finding the first letter that repeats on the sign. If it is an "A" add 0.002 to North, if it is a "B" add 0.003 to North, "C" +0.004, etc. For the West offset, count how many alphabetic characters into the sign the two repeated characters are. Multiply those two numbers together and subtract that from the sign coordinates. Example: If the first word on the sigh was Greybeard, the "e"'s are the first repeated letters. "E" is the 5th letter in the alphabet, so we would add 0.006 to North. The "e"'s are the 3rd and 6th letters (ignore spaces) on the sign. 3 times 6 is 18. We would subtract 0.018 from West coordinates.

Stages 2-5:  Collect the needed final stage information and proceed to the next GPS location unless you are at stage 5.

Stage 6:  The final stage is at N 33.2A.BCD W 111 4E.FGH where
   A = First digit at Stage 2
   B = Last digit in white at Stage 3
   C = The digit that precedes "56" at Stage 2
   D = A + B - C + E + F + G + H
   E = Is the next to the last digit on the sign at Stage 5
   F = Digit, two before, the last digit at Stage 4
   G = Digit that precedes "53'N" at Stage 5
   H = The third digit at Stage 4

Note that there is a lot of No Parking around the suggested parking area.

You can check the final location on GeoChecker.com.
