It's Called a Heart is by Depeche Mode. It was one of two new singles released with the compilation album The Singles 81-85.
But what exactly is this thing that we call a heart?
The heart is a hollow muscle that pumps blood throughout the blood vessels by repeated, rhythmic contractions. It is found in all animals with a circulatory system The adult human heart has a mass of between 250 and 350 grams and is about the size of a fist. Just so we can be clear on how little an actual heart looks like the usual stylised depiction of a heart, here’s an anatomically correct heart.
The heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral, and in the past, intellectual core of a human being. As the heart was once widely believed to be the seat of the human soul, the word heart continues to be used poetically to refer to the soul, and stylized depictions of hearts are used as prevalent symbols representing love.
The shape is particularly associated with romantic love; it is often seen on St. Valentine's Day cards, candy boxes, and similar popular culture artifacts as a symbol of romantic love.
What the traditional "heart shape" actually depicts is a matter of some controversy, one theory is the shape depicts elements of female genitalia. Another theory is that the symbol was commonly used to advertise brothels and became a popular motif for tattoos with the seafarers who patronised such establishments. Since few wanted to declare the true meaning of their tattoo, it was usually explained as a symbol for love.
