This is one of the oldest Tin Hau temples in Hong Kong. The roots date back to 1691, when it was first built by the local branch of the wealthy Tang clan. At the time Tai Po was a major market place, the temple was one of the focal points of the Tai Po Market, later called Tai Po Old Market or Tai Po Kau Hui after it lost to competition from the newer Tai Wo Market which was founded on the other side of Lam Tsuen River, and which became known as Tai Po Market. More information.
Opposite the temple across the street is the temple's Fung Shui square, currently being renovated into a sports ground. This square is the site of the temple's celebrations.
Be stealthy; it's hidden right next to the temple and there are always muggles around visiting the temple or the next-door clinic. The muggle factor adds a star to the difficulty level. GPS reception is also poor at this location, refer to the hint if you have problems locating GZ.

Getting there: minibus 20A, 20B, 20C or 20K, bus 71K, 72A, 73 or 75K, walk 5-10 minutes from Tai Wo Station or by bicycle.
Tai Po new town is one of the oldest New Town developments in Hong Kong. Development started in the 1970s with the major improvement of the then KCR train services, providing fast and convenient transport services to the north-eastern New Territories.
Tai Po district has a population of just over 300,000 people, of which about 250,000 live in the urban areas and the rest lives scattered in villages around the district. The district has a remarkably rich history, having served as political and trade centres over the last centuries.
Getting around Tai Po is best done by bicycle, there are several shops renting out bicycles near Tai Po Market station, on Kwong Fuk Road and also in other parts of the town.
