HI Geocachers: The Old 18 Mile Marker Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello Cubbybear1963,

I have been going through caches that have multiple "DNF" (did not find) logs, which is often a sign that a cache is missing. Generally cachers avoid hunting a cache with many DNF logs, so it is a good idea for the Cache Owner to check the cache and either replace it or post a log to the cache page to tell fellow geocachers that the cache is still there, but they might need new eyeglasses. No action by the Cache Owner may result in a cache being archived to keep the cache from appearing in local Pocket Queries.

Please reenable the cache page after you have maintained your cache. To reenable the cache, go to the cache from your Account page on GC.com. Under "Admin Tools" in the upper right-hand corner, click "Enable," write your note and click "Submit log entry."

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Geocache Description:

Before the new renovations were made on the Saddle Road, this was a nice place to rest or meet friends.on the way to Mauna Kea or Hapuna beach.
Only in Hawaii can you play in the snow and go swimming at the beach on the same day.

In my youth when i finally got my driver's license, the first thing we all wanted to do was drive my friends to the Kohala coast and go swimming at Hapuna. the quickest way (but not always the safest)to get there was through the old Saddle road that cuts across Hawaii island.

The old 18 mile rest stop would be the place to meet the gang and grab a quick smoke or rest before journeying on 30 more miles to Waimea.. Because the road was so narrow and winding it gave you a break to get your bearings, before making another go at the road.

The large cache is located in the rest stop area. There is a driveway that leads in and lots of parking too. here you can stretch your legs and rest the car. Unfortunately, there is a lot of litter here at times so if you see some ,take care and pick it up.

This has always been a special place for me. I have fond memories of all the kolohe things me and my friends did here. Malama the 'aina and please replace the cache exactly as you found it.
