While living in Inneston as a young lad during the 2nd World War Pop started playing tennis. By the age of 15 Pop's tennis life was in full swing. The girls admired his long legs as well as his forehands and aces. It was during this time that he informed his coach"If he was not allowed to wear a knotted handkerchief around his neck he would stop playing tennis" So there was NO MORE COACH and he continued playing tennis. In 1949 Pop became Jnr and under 17 Hills Championship winner this event was held in Adelaide, At around this time he beat the well known tennis playert Ken Mc Gregor. Pop continued to play tennis until his late 30's.
