Geocache Description:

Bintan's third traditional is a cache located with a superb view of the sea... and of another cache! It serves as a consolation cache for all the intrepid cachers who have come so far, risking life and limb to attempt GC3TZ5E. The path to the cache is tidal, (and best done at low tide) and be prepared for some clambering over rocks. Good luck, and enjoy the view from GZ.

On the 23 February 2013, a team of four brave geocachers made their way from Singapore to the island of Bintan. Not wanting to do anything the conventional way, this team walked nearly 7 kilometres from the ferry terminal to the resort where this cache is located, sweaty but still full of energy. Heartened and encouraged by two successful cache find, the team decided to go for the ultimate treasure, buried on an isolated island just off the coast of the main island of Bintan.

After a hearty lunch, the team walked down the windy beach to seek a way to the cache. Attempts to rent a boat, kayak and jetski at the beach club were denied due to unfavourable sea conditions, However, the team did not give up! We pushed ahead on foot to the closest point we could get to glimpse a view of the fabled island by walking along the rugged coastline. The soft sands of the beach quickly turned into pebbles, which subsequent turned into large boulders, which we clambered, climbed and stepped over. After rounding two capes (or tanjung in Bahasa Indonesia), we arrived at a beautiful spot which gave a great view of the north coast of the island, and our destination island, separated from the mainland by a small channel. As the waves crashed into the rocks beneath our feet, we noted that the winds were not in our favour and the trip to the Treasure Island was meant for another day.

So, we turned back... but before we did, we left a little 'treasure' for all those who would follow in our footsteps in seeking the treasure, simply for the love of the game. We stuck a little container behind a tree, and tied it the tree trunk. Once all was said and done, we looked back out at the ocean before us, and marvelled at the view once again. It was truly a sight to remember, and a great geocaching day with some lovely company.

My dear fellow geocachers, if you find this geocache, we salute you for your persistence and perseverence, and we wish you good luck and all the best in making your way to Pulau Harta! Do remember to share your journey to the caches on this island in your logs. Oh, and bring your own pen!
