Before there was a Church in Swanley people either travelled to St. Paul's Swanley Village to Worship or they went to the Congregational Temple at St. Mary Cray. In 1877 a Sunday School began in the front room of a farm cottage at Petham Court Farm.
In 1878 adult worship also began. The Congregational Church at St.Mary Cray became quite close to the newly created Church in Swanley.
As numbers increased attending Church in Swanley enough money was raised to build a corrugated iron mission chapel on the site of the current Working Man's club. George Harrison Pope was the preacher at the mission.
In 1901 a Church building committee was established. The cost of building the current Church was £2,600. The money was raised very quickly and the Foundation stone laying took place on Saturday 14th June 1902.
It is interesting to note that the Church marked the Swanley boundary with Farningham until 1955.
