Geocache Description:

I am attempting to have a little history lesson about Route 6 in Dartmouth, MA I spent four months doing research about the area and came up empty handed. So, everything that I have written is from memory. When you log in your find please share any memories you may have about the Dartmouth Drive – In. I can remember going to the Dartmouth Drive-In my pajamas. Back then it was $5.00 a car load which meant that we would always bring one of my friends along as company. My parent would pack a picnic dinner because we wanted to get there early to get the closest are best spot. While we were there music would play through the speakers. You didn’t want to use your AM radio in fear of using up your car battery. If you didn’t bring your own food there was the Snack Shack where you could purchase a burger for 50 cents or a hot dog for 35 cents along with French Fries and a Coke all for just over a dollar. When it started to get dark the big screen would come on and you watch the movie in the comfort of your own car. Oh! Don’t forget the previews; they were just as important than the featured movie. And, then there was intermission were the Big Coke Cup and Popcorn Box would dance on the big screen, with those big numbers counting down how much more time we had before the move would begin the second half. There was one draw backs to watching a movie in your car and it was forgetting to put the speaker back on the post. I can remember on one occasion my father forgetting to put the speaker back on the post and driving away, only to rip the speaker right off the post. We would have to go to the ticket office and return the speaker to them. How embarrassing to see your father get out of the car with this gray metal box in his hand explaining what happened. Today when I go to Wal-Mart on Route 6 in North Dartmouth. I sometimes try to visualize all of that because now they are just memories of things that went on BACK IN THE DAY. Don’t forget if you have any memories of the Dartmouth Drive In, please share them in your log entry. NOTE: THIS CACHE WAS PLACED BY THE STORE MANAGER PERMISSION IN 2013. Be safe and have fun and remember to BYOP. Remember to place it where you found the container.
