Welcome to Riverside, ND!

This settlement was known as SHEYENNE STOCKYARDS, HAGGARVS, RAGGARTS, and HAGGART in the 1870's and 1880's. New growth in the 1920's led to the founding of WEST FARGO. This name was transferred to the much larger neighbor to the south, Southwest Fargo, in 1967, with this place becoming WEST FARGO INDUSTRIAL PARK, a name never popular with local citizens. The West Fargo Industrial Park had a population of 104 in 1970. Mayor Luvern Eid began a campaign to change the name, and on September 17, 1974 Mayor Geraldine Walz proclaimed the city to be renamed RIVERSIDE, noting its location on the banks of the Sheyenne River. The city has grown from a population of 104 in 1970 to 465 in 1980, and was served by the West Fargo post office. In 1974, West Fargo, ND, and the West Fargo Industrial Park split into West Fargo, ND, and Riverside, ND. From its time of existence from 1974 to 1989, Riverside's population hovered around 500. In 1989, Riverside, ND, and West Fargo, ND merged into one city, that being West Fargo, ND. The area is now known as the Armour Industrial Park in West Fargo. Things that recognize the area as Riverside, ND is a water tower that says "RIVERSIDE" and Riverside Park.
